Pros

Work life balance Avocado toast in the Cafetaria Summer Friday’s Flexibility in most groups to work remote

Cons

Very high turnover with corporate. You will see a revolving door of C level individuals. Teams lack direction. Decisions are made very slowly. Resistant to change. Lots of layoffs - when the company decides to do another organizational change, if you are impacted, you’re done. I have seen young staff be let go as well as individuals that spent 20+ years with the company. Very sad to see people so dispensable. Have seen seasoned deserving employees passed up for promotions while less deserving junior employees get promotions and outpace their seasoned colleagues despite lack of experience and expertise. Even their employee discount is a joke when most days they have a 40% discount off merchandise (+ another 10% if you have a gap credit card)... Behind the ball on technologies and systems. This company is for you if you are looking for more work life balance, and need a “break”- the work is easy. If you are looking to be challenged, to feel like your work has an impact and is valued or want to be promoted, stay AWAY.

Pros

- emphasize global responsibility and community involvement; - many great people who are smart with great team spirit -tech is strategic enabler so stay current with technology and best practices - encourage innovation - mostly open culture - work life balance has improved a lot in the past few years and is well maintained for most teams - Flexible work time/location and flexible WFH option (may depend on teams/project and manager but in general is a norm in GapTech) - there has been growing pain for the former digital division's IT and there has been a lot of re-org since the merge of former GID IT and the Corporate IT thus lost a lot of good talents. But the latest GapTech re-org cut out a lot of redundancy and old bureaucracy, it may not be all right but is well received by a lot of folks and towards the right direction. In a way, the last 10 years from GID to GapTech is like a startup tech company going through growing pain and the pain of merging with a legacy Corp. Frustrating at times but there's still energy like a tech company. - it's a financially sound company with money to invest in technology

Cons

Not so easy for advancement though there are opportunities for horizontal movement; Retail apparel business is a not-so-stella industry to be in now so don't expect a big bonus There has been struggles for the business to deliver consistently good products Big corporations always have good and bad middle mgmt so having a good manager is important. Too many different communication tools as different teams may try different things but it makes communications a bigger challenge for globally spread-out teams and many different functions/departments/projects/teams As a company trying to transform in a transforming industry, there's a lot of uncertainty and a lot of changes. Not for someone looking for stability.
