Pros

Generally, the people here are wonderful--smart, friendly and genuinely hard-working with solid work ethics. The new modern building is fabulous along with all the extra perks that came with it including a gym, open, bright spaces, free beers, sodas, etc. The customers are fantastic—fun, energetic and willing to work as partners in research and development. Along with the customers comes the industries that the company supports—zoos, museums, amusement parks, tourist attractions--what’s not to love there? The benefits and salaries are pretty much on par if not a little better than other software development organizations. There is a decent push for work-life balance with flexible schedules and the ability to work from home. On paper, this place rocks. However…

Cons

For such a small organization with so many friendly people, there is an amazing lack of support among the teams and a definite feeling of “every man for himself”. Executive Leadership is more interested in finger pointing, placing blame, and accounting for every minute of every day than they seem concerned with moving the product and the company forward. There is a serious micro-management problem which in turn leads to a serious lack of collaboration, motivation, innovation and energy. Politics runs rampant—if you are well-liked, any outrageous behavior will be tolerated including acting rude and aggressive toward your coworkers. But, if you step out of line with some small imagined infraction and find yourself suddenly not part of the cool kids table anymore, you can be sure you’ll be made to suffer until you either quit or get fired. Recently the company has lost quite a few strong, competent, motivating leaders who could really have made a difference in culture. However, those proven leaders who have come on-board have quickly realized that open, honest feedback is not appreciated and skill sets and wisdom that were hard-earned elsewhere have no place to be put into practice here. It's really a pity, too, since this place certainly has the capacity and potential to be a great place to work.

Pros

Gateway has a lot of great reasons to be here every day. 1. Flexible work environment 2. Generous PTO policy 3. Great benefits including an unusual 1/2 reimbursement for personal technical equipment purchases. (Buy a $500 laptop and Gateway reimburses you $250.) 4. Interesting work and super smart people. 5. Great combination of laid back people with ambitious goals. 6. I really could go on... Many of my friends and family comment on my great job when I talk about work.

Cons

There aren't a whole lot. 1. The product is very large and highly configurable which can sometimes be frustrating to maintain and effectively support. 2. Sometimes goals are created at cross-purposes so you can feel as though you may not be in a situation where you can succeed. 3. The code base is old and really needs to be refactored or even rebuilt and there doesn't seem to be a plan for that in place.

Pros

The company is located in Gilbertsville in a beautiful, modern office. For the majority of people it is commuting against the traffic which is a huge advantage and appreciated by anyone who has sat on 422 going into King of Prussia The office is fantastic and the company management team does a fantastic job of communicating to employees. Each month the company has a meeting to recognize new employees, acknowledge exemplary performance and to present the company financials. After the meeting (which is held in the company auditorium) there is cake to celebrate employee birthdays for the month as well as free drinks including beer. The company has a generous vacation plan and a flexible work from home schedule depending on your department.

Cons

There are no cons. You will be challenged as the software and hardware configurations can be complex.
