.The Culture Doesn't Allow for 'Second-best'

Pros

The culture of this firm is as-advertised. That is, you have to work hard to advance. There is no "time-in-grade' or 'time-in-service' to get you promoted. Just showing up to work is not enough. Your peers may get promoted ahead of you. Guess what? They worked harder than you. Your peers getting more opportunities than you? Well, they didn't turn down the last three details. I don't know where this sense of entitlement came from with a lot of these other reviews, but there are a lot of successful people in this firm, and nothing was handed to us. Least of all during the first thirty days of employment. If you are looking for a firm that values self-loyalty, hard work, commitment, willingness and promotion by merit; offers a continuous program of training and betterment, and is willing to go the extra mile to weed out the 'non-hackers,' GDBA might be for you.

Cons

Long hours, overnights, travel, clients-first....this stuff adds up. Either you have it in you, or you don't. Your first year is a heck of a hill to get over. Put in the work, though, and freedom, recognition and financial reward awaits you.

Pros

Big Boy Rules: NOTHING AT GDBA WILL EVER BE HANDED OUT and that’s why some of these "one star reviewers" are upset, because they want a big payday and world travel after their first month at the firm; when that doesn’t happen, their entitled attitude causes resentment. Where go-getters see opportunity, victims see a brick wall. Every single manager, director, and executive within our Protective Security Division rose from the bottom up (where those naysayers are now). I'm a former Marine and I've been with the company for a few years and I've absolutely worked my tail off and been successful. I now lead a protective detail b/c of my performance. The associates I work with at GDBA are some of the most dedicated professionals I've ever met, and unlike USMC, we are promoted purely because of our merit, not seniority.

Cons

Not a lot of work-life balance. This ain't a 9 to 5 job. If you want to succeed, you better bring a service-oriented smile on your face and be prepared to cancel your dinner reservations. This is a tough life and is not for everyone. The hours are extremely long. To succeed, you need to be absolutely sure, that you were put on earth to protect at-risk people. If that's the case, then this work is incredibly rewarding. And the firm rewards performance -- the cream always rises to the top and the opportunities within the firm, which is growing internationally, are endless.

Just echoing what everyone else says

Pros

none really, I mean it looks good on a resume I guess.

Cons

Terrible, terrible company. Been working here about a month and it's exactly like what everyone else says. They lie to you, the pay is ridiculous, you're just gonna be sitting at a desk with a screen for 12 hours a night, they slam you with busywork in the guise of 'training'. Would not recommend this company to anyone. I would rather do uniformed security for any of the other big players, at least they're upfront with you. You also have to buy all your own gear, I've worked with 2 other security companies and have never had to buy my own handcuffs/flashlight/gun any of that, but you better be ready to pay outta pocket for that here.
