Pros

You get to solve very complex issues for world's most at risk people. There is always a feeling of serving a higher purpose. Further, you are surrounded by some of the most dedicated people to their craft in an emerging field. What we do here matters. The future of the company is very bright and this is an extremely innovative company.

Cons

This job is a lifestyle and one that you take home with you. Security is a 24/7 -365 field. Protection does not stop on the weekends.

Best Decision I Made!

Pros

I joined GDBA after 7 years in the Marine Corps. To me, it was supposed to be a stepping stone while I pursued a career in Law Enforcement or Govt agency. But I continued to work hard as I knew an LEO position or Fed job process could take up to a year. I started out as many protectors do, working in a command center, nights, weekends, holidays, etc. I took those shifts very seriously and looked for ways to make myself and the command centers I worked better. Not only did my team see the drive and energy, but so did my leaders. It wasn’t long after that I was getting more and more opportunities. I contribute those opportunities to providing quality work and being ready if called. Soon, I was promoted thru the ranks and became a GDBA leader myself, then the LEO and Fed jobs started calling. But I realized that in the govt sector, I wouldn’t be afforded the opportunities that I’ve had in GDBA and to earn more money based on my ability, not the budget. I decided to forego my govt chase and dedicated myself fully to my GDBA career, best thing I ever did! I’ve learned that the harder you work, the smarter you work, the greater the rewards. I’ve earned several promotions since, which includes pay raises each time and better benefits. I’m able to invest in my retirement with the company’s 401k, but also purchased my own. I’m very happy where I’m at and I’m not easily pleased. I highly recommend this firm, but I also know that it takes patience and hard work to get anything in life. The individuals that I work alongside with are committed to their careers, great shape, and we share the same values. I hear my friends talk about their co-workers and can’t imagine having to share an office or even the command center with them. This is a great place to work and I suggest you give it a full 2 years to really get the best of GDBA.

Cons

Long hours, far commutes (if you choose to live far from your command center). GDBA is a lifestyle, not something you do Monday thru Friday, and you must be ready for a challenge. There are much easier jobs.

Pros

I spent 8 years in the Marines. During that time, I taught a specialized program that easily translated into the security industry. I got out in 2012 and immediately after began working for Gavin de Becker. I used my experiences from the military and applied them in Gavin de Becker. I rose through the ranks fairly quickly through my hard work, dedication and willingness. This career is not for the feint of heart and you will not get any where here or in life expecting a hand out. You wont be promoted just for doing your job and meeting the minimal standards. That will only come with hard work and our organization has done a great job rewarding those who prove that they are ready for advancement

Cons

Balancing your life and career is very difficult but this can be said with any career. What I see most of are people looking for a job. By definition a job is something you do to in the short term to earn cash. It's filling a work role within a business in exchange for money. If this is what you are looking for then expect to be limited by your lack of ambitions. A career, though, is a long-term pursuit of a lifelong ambition and this is what I strive for daily. Leaving a positive impact and promoting change is never without its sacrifices.
