Pros

Georgia-Pacific is a large company, employs many exceptionally talented people, and has a great legacy of providing useful products to society.

Cons

Georgia-Pacific, owned by Koch Industries, does not treat many of its employees in very honest, courteous, or ethical ways, in my opinion based on my experience there. I was in a group where it was widely believed that the new management of our department wanted us gone, but we were never told this, which would have been far more honorable. Some of us quit, some were let go, and some retired, but there was a feeling that we were being pushed out of the company, and many of the people who quit seemed to do so because they were being given unreasonable work assignments to accomplish. Another downside of working with the company is that I sensed we were always having to hide something - our company was reorganized at the end of 2006, and management was very strict about who could see the new structure. People in other departments were not allowed to see the new corporate structure, this level of secrecy was really unusual. One other thing - the one vice-president I encountered has a reputation for dishonesty, and that is something that he seemed to be able to do without consequence.

Pros

I have worked for this company for 26 years and it is all I really know!

Cons

I am for the first time motivated to find a job elsewhere as this company is no longer able to provide an adequate level of fulfillment. The "agreement", based on the guiding principles, made between me and the company has been violated for the last time, most recently in the form of no bonus even though my personal contribution to the bottom line is more than 20X my salary. And I am not the only one. Of the other employees that I know well enough to have such conversations the majority share the same sentiment and many are in the process of finding work elsewhere. If you need a job and can put up with the lack of fulfillment you should be checking out GP as there are going to be a lot of vacant positions in the near future.

Pros

Decent hourly rate, thanks to the union who fights for wage increases every contract. Other than that, there are no other positives

Cons

Management is so far out of touch with basic/humanistic principles. The culture at GP is toxic. Company says one thing and does another and have done many unethical actions but yet corporate turns their head the other way. There are no employee bonuses. The company feels that your paycheck is enough. Management believes in production first, safety second even though they boast "safety comes first." If you ask management questions they are quick to act in shutting you down, they do not like to be challenged. If you tolerate being lied to, enjoy unethical behaviors and actions...then this is the place for you!
