Smart people, terrible leadership

Pros

- Being around some incredibly smart and great people - Pushing the remote culture for the greater world - People willing to help out to accomplish greater goals

Cons

- Values are only followed by leadership when convenient. Particularly around transparency around goals and expectations. Decisions and data are only shared among select individuals in marketing where goals are a constant moving target. - There is no SSOT datasource and there are ongoing inaccurate data issues that make doing your job, difficult - Disagreeing with leadership can get you shown the door. Many groups have a "do as I say" mentality. - There is no stability in marketing leadership. It is a revolving door with leadership "mutually agreeing" to the leave organization. - Handbook and documentation can often be used as a weapon against you. - Pay is well under industry benchmarks. Annual review cycles will rarely get you more than 5-10% salary increases.

Pros

The culture is supportive, everyone on the team helps each other succeed. Leadership has very intelligent strategy and transparently communicates this internally and publicly. The Gitlab single DevOps platform created this space and is leading the marketplace. Most of our customers are raving fans of the product, it's that good. The all-remote culture is intentionally crafted to cultivate collaboration and teamwork to produce winning results.

Cons

Haven't noticed anything lacking or needing improvement that Gitlab leadership hasn't already identified in transparency and communicated a plan to address. This company moves quickly execute on its plans so I have a lot of confidence in its ability to execute. My employment at Gitlab exceeds my expectations.

Not the company it once was

Pros

Flexible work hours, emphasis on async and delivering results rather than time online/behind a desk, incredibly talented team of individuals from all walks of life, company genuinely cares about all forms of diversity and emphasizes the importance of mental health

Cons

Typical growing pain for a late-stage company, but the company values (collaboration, results, efficiency, DIB, iteration, transparency), particularly iteration and transparency, are quickly becoming obsolete. Leadership can be particularly prickly to work with, many positions lack actual and obtainable growth opportunities

Pros

Working at GitLab has been a breath of fresh air compared to your typical tech companies. I have worked at lots of companies that have all the “bells & whistles” - great benefits, free food, unlimited PTO, slides in the office, you name it. Those companies also claimed transparency and that they cared about their employees, but their actions never compared to their claims. Gitlab on the other hand, I can say with complete confidence - they practice what they preach. They genuinely care about their employees and actively practice transparency in everything they do. No smoke and mirrors. I can’t even express how good it feels to be working somewhere that I am proud to be at & doesn’t hide anything behind closed doors. They not only care about you personally, but professionally, actively encouraging both vertical & horizontal growth to your career at GitLab while giving you the means to do so. On top of this, the people who work here are all so genuinely kind and willing to help. I feel so grateful to have gotten a job here! The recruiting / interview process was seamless and transparent, just like the company & product - I always knew what to expect and felt supported every step of the way. They are respectful of you and your time, ensuring that the process doesn’t last for weeks and weeks like typical interview processes. Overall, GitLab sets a prime example of how ALL companies should treat their employees. Keep it up!

Cons

No cons I can think of unless you think being fully remote is a bad thing!

Pros

- wonderful community of kind and helpful individuals - team diversity (everyone can feel respected and celebrated for who they are) - work flexibility (non-linear working day, being the manager of one) - competitive salary - transparency (everything is public by default) - unlimited paid time off - asynchronous environment - really great product

Cons

- honestly, nothing really I can think of, I simply love it here <3

Pros

best place I've ever worked Leadership and team members live the CREDIT Values (Collaboration, Results, Efficiency, Diversity, Iteration, and Transparency). more transparent than anywhere I've worked you will learn a ton and come out a better person, focused on delivering value to your customers and team members.

Cons

post IPO culture not the same (not as fun) as the road to IPO

Pros

The handbook details anything you could want to know about the company. Extreme collaboration, transparency and async work. Values are practiced openly

Cons

Even start-ups can get stuck doing things they way they've "always been done" and resistant to change.
