The Truth about HEB

Pros

Benefits and that’s about it.

Cons

They reward Mediocrity and punish the people who actually work hard. Favoritism at its finest. You’ll end up doing all the work while your leader sits on their phone watching tik toks all day. You have to drink the HEB kool-Aid to advance. Policy’s are always a “grey area” the make exceptions for certain people and Enforce the rules on others. When you follow the rules and policy, you get challenged and overruled because they want to “make an exception” so the policy’s don’t mean a thing. You’ll have more success just being average in this role instead of a rockstar. HEB over spent last year and had to restructure teams to avoid layoffs in talent acquisition. They take advantage of the partners in the temp program during it can be 6 months, but keep people there for a year or more with no raise. They keep them in the temp program to pay them less then promote people over them with no experience in the role. You have the option to work remote, but you’ll find out quickly it’s taken advantage of. No one is held accountable for their work and can just do whatever they want.

Pros

Discounts, health insurance with perks, flexible hours, ability to advance in job opportunities, friendly employees and staff, ability to switch jobs and stores after 3 months. 6 hour shifts for floor employees.

Cons

The short shifts for what my hourly pay was. Had open availability except for weekends because of transportation so I had worked out a schedule and position agreement upon hiring. But after 3 days of computer training I started on the floor doing a completely different position than I was hired for. I was basically thrown in where I was needed with no training, which is fine with my level of experience and skills required. However, I started getting reprimanded by different supervisors about things I had no idea I was doing wrong but I would just apologize and fix the problem. I received absolutely no training and got multiple write ups, tried to change my availability to an hour later every shift for ride availability and they weren't having it, you only get two 15 min breaks and they would just say go on break even if you were in a position like helping an elderly customer and it was on you to keep track of your lunch. Don't even think about trying to buy food in the time you have cuz you won't have time to eat. Until you hit 3 months you aren't a valued partner yet so you aren't even in the running to get trained for a different job or transfer. At 3 months they tried to weasel in my on the job training paperwork realizing I never got any. I have never had such hovering supervisors that were also useless ever. Left just at 3 months.
