Pros

Fast ability to move up, difficult to get fired, you don't need to take the job home with you. A good job during college, and you don't have to put a lot of work into it unless your looking to move up.

Cons

The customers are disgusting, rude, there are times at work their actions can be degrading to sales staff.

Pros

Fast-paced environment and vacation time.

Cons

The company doesn't even live up to its own values. Such a joke. Work-life balance does not exist. Sometimes you're expected to work 14 hours+, unless you want to get on the bad side of the store manager. You will know if you did, because you will find yourself cleaning up kid's accessories (H&M employees' worst nightmare), or having to close AND open the very next day for a couple of weeks. YOU CANNOT GET HURT/INJURED. Because even if you have a doctor's note attempting to call out from work, management will give you a hard time. They once asked a co-worker of mine to grab a chair and SIT at the register to ring when she hurt her neck/spine. The company only sees its employees as working tools. The high rate of internal promotion is a huge lie. They hire people who applied to be a visual merchandiser and give them the title of sales associate first. After 6 months, they then "promote" that person so it seems like he/she was promoted internally. People are promoted by favoritism, not ability. There are a lot of lazy employees who got promoted because they know how to pretend in front of the right people. That is also the main reason why there are always unfinished projects laying around in the store. It is making everyone's job more difficult. The company also makes lots of promises they can't keep when it comes to developing an individual. No one wants to come to work. The employee turnover rate is very high. There are lots of no call no shows but they know they can get away with it because the store manager cannot afford loosing any more employees. Yeah sure, the pay seems good for retail. However, considering the "games" you have to put up with and high work load, this company pays NOTHING. Well..unless you are one of those lazy ones.

Pros

The break rooms are like a lounge, flat screen TV/DVD player, full size fridge, plastic utensils supplied by the company. Breaks are the best part of the day by far.

Cons

Insane amount of work and responsibility for very little pay. Unreasonably high expectations of all employees. The internal movement is so rapid and messy that no one is actually focused on the job they currently have, but the one they're trying to get, usually in another city. Absolutely NO GRATITUDE for the LITERAL blood, sweat, and tears that are poured into working there. Management plays favorites shamelessly. There is even a portion of the weekly mgmt meeting during which they talk smack about employees (they call it the "people" portion of the meeting. Every single store does this. If you don't feel like traveling to a nearby city at the very last minute and living in a crappy hotel for a month while working at another store, you're considered "unwilling to grow with the company". LONG LONG LONG hours. You almost never get off at the scheduled time. There's an almost cult-like air about the company, with vague mantras that everyone is constantly repeating (ex: "we believe in people". What does that even mean?). On top of all that, the customers are completely insane, rude, and incredibly ungrateful. I only stayed as long as I did because I needed the insurance for a surgery. Worst job ever.
