Pros

There is a lot of tax education available to keep employees knowledgeable. They are slowing empowering their managers to actually manage. If you move, there are H&R Blocks everywhere. If you have the ability to continually re-adapt and adjust your personality to match your clients you will build a good client base (which is an expectation). You could make an okay income if you know how to do a complex tax return and you are incredibly proficient with their software.

Cons

There is very little room for advancement. They often impose unrealistic expectations for what they pay. The people who are creating the processes and making the rules have no idea what it is actually like to work in a tax office. They don't know when to leave well enough alone and continually change things that work. In 13 year with this company I had 8 different Managers. Lastly, It is very difficult to only work 4 months a year and earn a living.

Pros

Management very supportive of tax pros. Flexible scheduling. Unlimited CPE at virtually no cost. Exposure to all types of personal return issues. As you progress up the ladder of competency, pay is very satisfactory.

Cons

No entity work. Not much in the way of quality control. Receptionists often schedule appointments. 2nd year associates could get COD and asset disposition return while the EA is doing 1040 EZ. Makes you feel unprofessional to be constantly asked to sell add on products to clients.

Pros

Salary & bonuses. They have a "take what you need" PTO policy, however, you are so busy that you don't get to take advantage of it. And company doesn't have to pay it out when they lay you off, so not as great as it seems.

Cons

There is a constant fear of losing your job. Layoffs are frequent, and they are now outsourcing jobs at the headquarters to India. This pattern will continue, and the people left onshore are being overworked tremendously. Would not recommend to anyone as a long term place of employment.
