Pros

There are a few good reasons to work for a big company like Block, you can basically make your own hours and you come out learning way more than what you thought you knew about the tax code.

Cons

Some managers do not care about the quality of their work but more about the amount of money they make the company, they devalue their employees and break them to and treat them like crap.

Pros

I cannot think of anything positive to say about this company. The only positive is the kindness of a few of the tax pros who worked in my office in Asheville NC. I resigned after 4 weeks and have never been happier to leave a job and incompetent management.

Cons

As Marketing Ambassador for Tunnel Rd Office, Asheville NC, I worked for 2 weeks and then "terminated" by an HR employee in headquarters and neither I nor my manager was notified. It took 2 weeks to be "rehired" in the system while I was unable to clock in hours worked; I was required to re-enter new hire paperwork not once but twice. I was told to continue working. I appealed to the city office marketing coordinator for help and the support person for Client Service Professionals, and even to the District Mgr in Tennessee. No one helped or even replied to my phone calls or email messages. Only my office manager tried to help but was thwarted by the incompetence of the IT and HR Departments. When I finally was rehired into their terrible system, I was told I would be paid all hours worked on next paycheck. My paycheck was short 2 days. The company has no idea of how to market and sell their products and services. This was a feeble attempt to start actively selling HRB. At $9 per hour, this was not worth my time.

Pros

Great coworkers, training programs, and schedule flexibility; district management is top-notch and very supportive.

Cons

There are no year-round opportunities, but that's because they generate the vast majority of their business during tax season (Jan. - April) - it's the nature of the beast. Hourly pay is not commensurate with the skills, knowledge, and work demands of the average tax preparer.
