Working at the Block

Pros

The company has a excellecent training program. There is year round opportunity for continued education. All employees should have the high level skill set for performing taxes.

Cons

Being a tax preparer with the company is similar to working at a car dealership. All locations and employees earn base pay with incentives. Employees are extremely competitive and critical in the office.

Pros

co workers were all very nice and helped each other out, environment was clean, inviting, and definitely well organized. The flexibility of hours were great! The training was thorough and followed up on. The geographic locations of these stores made it an easy commute.

Cons

seasonal work - was expecting a much higher rate of pay -expectations of work were that of any other job plus some extra duties that really had nothing to do with what I was hired for- but with zero benefits and a very low pay scale. Hours of operation were switched around the whole time making it difficult to be able to count on hours.

Pros

Good seasonal part time work, gives you flexibility to work around other jobs or interests. I enjoy the direct client contact, every client is unique so it keeps the work interesting.

Cons

Takes time to build a client base and your pay is based on the volume of work you produce.
