Lengthy application for seasonal employment

Pros

Flexible hours, staff members friendly. It appears once you have worked their one season you may return every year. It seems to be a good fit for retirees or those looking for seasonal employment only.

Cons

Low pay, lengthy application process for seasonal employment. There is a different rate for training, meetings, and once fully trained.

Pros

Classes are valuable and informative. Individual offices have great personalities. The company is invested in the employees' education and experience.

Cons

Multiple managers give the same instructions. I received six emails/phone calls per day during the hiring process from different offices "checking in" on how things were going. One of the calls was before 6am. Kansas City doesn't communicate well with district offices; either that, or the district manager here blames her mistakes on Kansas City. The company sends multiple emails to personal email addresses, rather than company addresses, even after the employee no longer works for the company. Part-time employees have to endure the same extensive company training, in addition to tax education, each year, and the training is usually for minimum wage.

Pros

You have limited choice over your own hours, and they give you resources for training. Theoretically a good deal.

Cons

You have to pay for your own training, sidejobs like passing out flyers to local businesses, telemarketing, other antiquated techniques that make you hate yourself for spamming for a living. What training is given is highly inadequate except for basic returns, you must self study the rest with cbts. There are only two types of clients at h&r block, the poor who you rob of EITC with exorbitant pricing (they don't care) and the cheapskate rich who are too cheap to hire a CPA. Anyone else is a tourist who isn't returning next year.
