Pros

It is a respectful workplace that also has a fun loving side to it.

Cons

Very tough market with a lot more choice for consumers than 10 years ago. Seasonal staff can be a challenge to motivate and retain.

Pros

Good seasonal position; fairly flexible hours; work can be challenging but rewarding. Company training classes are excellent and run the gamut from basic to advanced. People who enjoy customer service and math consider this to be the best of both worlds.

Cons

Pay scale is hourly with bonus incentives which only pay off at the higher certification levels. Management changes its focus every year and is out of touch with the daily activities involved at the office levels. Many managers have had no tax prep experience and try to apply retail sales theories to operations which are service-based. Customers can be frustrated by pricing structure.

Pros

By far what's best about working for Block is their Education and Training system. You have the ability to increase your tax knowledge and designation as much and quick as you desire. They have numerous resources abailable for youy to do this. Also they do place a strong emphasis on the Client experience and make sure you do your best to satisfy them. Very honest and high sense of intergrity, always focused on doing what's right for the client and not cutting corners just get clients more of a refund and belive that's what is going to keep them coming back. Excellent support for clients who need to deal with issues with the tax authority. Wether they receive a letter from the IRS or are being audited, they can turn to H&R Block and find the assistance they need.

Cons

Probably the biggest drawback is that it's seasonal work. Unless your in upper management you cannot work all year around. Even if you get the chance to work during the summer, you have to take 2 months off. The base pay is decent, commission on entry level position is not much, but it does increase as you move up. Also depending which office you work, some managers can be great or terrible. But if you find yourself in an office where you don't like certaing individuals you always have the option to move offices.
