Pros

My District Manager is so genuine, sincere, and helpful. The company is very serious about ethics, a pleasant change from my previous employer, a large for-profit health-insurance company.

Cons

Pay is very low for the amount of knowledge that tax associates are required to possess. Tax season is very busy, but the rest of the year is slow, and tax professionals are required to take additional classes on their own time.

Pros

There used to be pros. Good training. They covered marketing and liability insurance. Now we are marketing and if there are penalties we pay them even if we did everything right. And they don't need to train us since they don't care if we do accurate tax returns , only that we sell enough extra products.

Cons

Being asked to sell things. In the office. Out of the office. On social media. 12 months of the year. Putting us on commission basis and then sabotaging it by giving our time away for free or using us as unpaid volunteers for pilot programs that won't bring in much revenue so our time there comes right out of our commission. Training that used to be so good is now pushed on us at the last minute with inferior materials such as texts that are so fuzzy they can't be read and classes that are virtual so attendance is set for a certain time but it's all online and watching a screen and a chat window and listening. Teachers cannot see our homework or help with it. Managers who don't have a clue about taxes and don't understand the first thing about what it's like to deal with our clients or how their decisions keep our office from running well.

Pros

The training and continuing education requirements are phenomenal. The retention of our clients is outstanding. Love working with people and watching their families grow up from year to year while making sure they are getting every tax break available to them.

Cons

The only con i can think of is the long working hours during the peak weeks.
