Hopeful for Hallmark

Pros

Hallmark's past achievements may be it's remaining strengths. Believing in creativity and true innovation combined with trust in your front line people helped grow Hallmark into a great company and trusted brand. Lessons, translated from the past may be what's needed now to help establish an effective plan for Hallmark's future.

Cons

The company is shrinking and the general atmosphere deteriorating, at least for front line employees. There does not seem to be a definitive plan for improving the company's outlook. For years Hallmark leaders have talked about the adverse effects of technology on the social expressions industry. The solutions to these issues should have been initiated 10 to 15 years ago. Hallmark needs a definitive vision and direction for future growth, and not just a business strategy of cutting costs/jobs to protect the bottom line. It may not be too late for Hallmark to avoid going the way of Polaroid, Kodak, and others.

Pros

You'll grow stronger as a person learning to live daily with the anxiety of wondering if and when your position will be eliminated. Deep wisdom in how to schedule a meeting and then keep all attendees in the room for the full allotted time. Building of solid relationships while training the contract employee who will soon replace you. Watch in wonder as management survives each day under such a heavy schedule, but mysteriously has nothing to show for it. Gaze in amazement at the constant touching of bases between "leaders" at the coffee shop.

Cons

• Perception valued above knowledge, skills, and results. • Too many layers of management. What do some of these people do??? "Let's have a meeting and use business buzz words..." • Entitled behavior from leadership. • Employee Relations (HR) isn't there to help you, they protect the company. Be careful what you say to them.

Pros

Very nice management. Employees are respected, benefits are great, pay is decent.

Cons

This is a ship to no-where, and they have had massive lay-offs speckled through out the last 5ish years, with no signs of stopping.
