Toxic management and culture

Pros

You're building a fantastic product to increase accessibility and affordability for mental healthcare.

Cons

Headway prides itself on being a mental health care startup. That being said, no other organization have I had the opportunity to work for was more taxing and draining on my mental health than Headway. Middle-managers are toxic and passive-aggressive, creating a horribly stressed environment in which to work. One manager in particular frequently makes sexist comments and gets away with it because of his seniority at the company. I would not recommend anyone work here, especially not in Sales, Customer Experience, Data or Operations. The irony is that the product they've created is a fantastic value-add for mental health. Unfortunately, headway treats its employees as expendable, low-worth individuals who end up needed serious mental health resources after their tenure at Headway. Everyone I know (myself included) who has left Headway is much happier and less stressed than they were at Headway

Thank you for sharing. We’re sorry to read about your experience at Headway. Regarding your leadership comments, we do not condone this type of behavior at any level and this feedback will be given to our new People/HR team. This team is supporting the ongoing development of our leaders and staff through training, manager coaching, and employee experience. As a company, we provide several surveys throughout the year for individuals to give feedback on company culture, team culture, growth opportunities, manager relationships, compensation, and more. These surveys help our leadership team create actionable steps to improve a team’s sentiment. Out of a score of 100%, the teams mentioned had a combined score of 81% favorable experience with managers and 74% favorable score of their work & life blend. While these results demonstrate that a larger number of Headway employees feel positive about these areas, we will continue to improve on these scores as we want all Headway employees to have a positive shared experience.

Navigating Corporate Quagmire: A Candid Overview

Pros

Unlimited PTO: Amid the chaos, the promise of unlimited PTO glimmers like a distant oasis. However, its practicality often fades under heavy workloads. Free Therapy: It's almost ironic how they offer free therapy, perhaps acknowledging the stressful environment they've cultivated. Great Co-workers: The camaraderie among co-workers serves as a lifeline, a support system that keeps us afloat in turbulent waters. Incredible Office: Behind the scenes of chaos lies an office space that's impeccably designed, providing a serene facade to the daily grind.

Cons

Burnout and Prioritization: Burnout isn't a stranger here; it's a persistent specter lurking behind the "prioritization" mask. Personal well-being often takes a backseat. Retaliation: Voicing concerns can feel like stepping on a landmine. The culture of silence due to fear of retaliation stifles progress. Lack of Job Security: Job security resembles a game of chance, with hardworking individuals often left to wonder about their future. Frequent Quota Metric Changes: The ever-changing quota metrics keep us on our toes, sometimes stumbling in the dark.

Pros

More DE & I efforts than most companies but not in higher level positions

Cons

This job is the most demanding and emotionally draining/exhausting job I've truly ever had. The CEO addressed this in a company wide meeting stating he expects it to be and we're not slowing down or doing less work anytime soon. Expect to do the work/job of 5 people. They will gaslight you to sacrifice yourself in the name of getting more mental health access to others while running your own mental health into the ground. It's fake and performative and beyond just typical startup work.
