Casual work environment, flexible schedule, opportunities to learn new things.

Cons

For anyone with a family, the health plan is horrifically overpriced with not good coverage. After having almost $700 come out per month of an employees paycheck the coverage should at least be good, but it isn't. The HR department needs to realize they should stop spending on family activities when most families would prefer that money go to better health coverage.

Pros

HEI is a great place for young engineers and designers. It is a a fun fast paced environment. The corporate culture of work hard play hard give back is a good one. There is good work life balance. Compensation is ok. Not the best but not the worst, either.

Cons

Poor advancement opportunities for more senior and well qualified engineers. Many engineers with 10-15 years of experience have been passed up for promotions only to see younger people with less experience are being promoted first. Too much focus on selling in promotions instead of also promoting people who possess the skills and knowledge to lead teams effectively and complete the work that has been sold. Losing sight of the balance that needs to exist between selling work and knowledge and skills to complete the work.

Pros

Great work place enviroment. The people are fun to work with and the schedule flexibility is unbeatable. Management is friendly and wants you to learn.

Cons

Limited pay flexibility. Hard work is not always rewarded. Difficult to carve out a career path without goals to meet. From day 1 little is said about what the next step in your career will be.
