Pros

Training is readily available. Layoffs are almost unheard of. Some departments have very good leadership and are great places to work... I was just never lucky enough to get into one of them. Nice annual bonuses distributed to the salaried employees.

Cons

Many managers have clawed their way up from Customer Service and continue to claw, using poor and abusive management skills. Promotions are often determined by your ability to fit in with the right clique: membership in the Good Old Boys Club or the after-hours bar crowd seem to be requisites for advancement. Very intense pressure to meet quarterly upgrades to the claims processing system by putting in extra hours. The Pittsburgh and Camp Hill people never buried the hatchet after their merger in 1997, frequently resulting in a distinct lack of cooperation between the two groups.
