Pros

It’s mostly just the people now

Cons

Unrealistic targets, feels like management gets their bonus for making decisions that are detrimental to salespeople’s ability to make plan. New management makes you feel like just a number rather than part of the family. Broken processes. Corporate strategy seems disconnected from life in the field. Middle management being put in an impossible position between being good managers for their teams and representing the company’s interests. DEI has taken a big hit ever since Martina left.

Pros

Before I share my thoughts, I want to make it clear that I took time to reflect before writing this. There was a period when Hilti truly embodied an employee-first culture—when the mission, the camaraderie, and the pride in wearing the red shirt actually meant something. That Hilti, unfortunately, no longer exists. What the company once had but has since lost includes: 1. Genuine work-life balance 2. A caring, inclusive culture 3. Competent and inspiring management 4. Top-tier tools and services There are numerous transferable skills you learn and gather from this company. Use them, master them and move on. This should go without saying, but some of the best people I’ve ever met — and had the absolute privilege of working with and for — belonged at Hilti. I’ll always be grateful for what this company once represented and for the lessons I learned there. The relationships, mentorship, and pride that came with being part of Hilti’s earlier culture were second to none. That version of Hilti set a standard that many of us still carry with us today.

Cons

Hilti is no longer the company it once was. 1. No work-life balance 2. No longer caring or inclusive 3. Disconnected management 4. Declining quality in tools and service Micromanagement dominates daily life. Salesforce has become a monitoring system rather than a productivity tool. The excessive data requirements leave little room for meaningful work. Account Managers spend more time inputting numbers than creating value. Hate to break it to you. Most of it is “fluff”. But you would see it for what it was if you actually worked in outside sales. Or promoted little “Yes Boys” with very little experience. Upper leadership seems increasingly out of touch with the realities of the field. Bringing in leaders from other regions or countries isn’t the issue—it’s doing so without any local understanding or sales experience. That disconnect has eroded morale and trust across teams. The pay for the workload is uncompetitive, bonuses are capped, and the constant data entry drains motivation. I moved to another company that offers greater autonomy, flexibility, and appreciation for its people. Hilti, once a brand defined by pride and excellence, has become a burnout factory.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect and share your experience. We’re glad you once felt pride in being part of Hilti and recognize how difficult it is to feel that shift. We understand your concerns around leadership, micromanagement and the disconnect between strategy and field execution. These are complex challenges, and while we may not always get it right, we’re committed to improving how we support our teams and stay true to what makes Hilti strong. We wish you all the best in your career moving forward.

Pros

Company car, time off, co-workers

Cons

Micro-managed by executives that have not sold in the field, They rely heavily on Salesforce for insights. Upper management are all friends who have worked years together at Hilti with many of them from overseas making it difficult for promotions. HR protects mistakes made by senior managers verses doing what is right. The Account Manager position has a very high turner over rate because of poor leadership and pay. It is also a position more like a Sales Representative in which you go from job-site to job-site to demo and take orders for tools. Rarely are you managing an account.
