MICRO MANAGEMENT & TERRIBLE LEADERSHIP

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

-company vehicle, cell phone and computer -time off and good work/life balance -flexibility on how you structure your day

Cons

Since starting with the company 15 years ago it has completely changed and not in a good way. I totally get that things need to change in order for a company to grow but not in the way that hilti has changed over my time here. As a direct result of all the changes Hilti has lost some of their best people in the process. These former employees not only served as great resources for knowledge about products but also how to tackle a typical day in the field or advice for that tough customer that you are struggling to connect with. They would rather hire young kids out of college with zero sales experience and pay them much less than the tenured employee who they have replaced. The micro management was also a direct result of those hires and their accusation of salesforce. I went from having one-two face to face meetings with my team per year to one every month on top of the kick off meetings and other required face to face meetings that pop up regularly. I also meet with my team every other week virtually for an hour, which again never happened before and is just a waste of everyone’s time. The icing on top are the new role play sales competitions they force us to participate in that happen twice a year, for now at least. Taking a account manager out of the field to play make believe at the end of the quarter is not the best use of my time. I can see how it might benefit others but for a top level account manager my peers and I should be exempt from even participating. If I started with this company today I would see it as a stepping stone for my next job not a job that I’m going to retire at. They like to say their pay structure and benefits are competitive but I believe we are at the bottom of the barrel. Merit increases happen once a year and are never higher than 5%, that 5% is only given if you actually hit all of the metrics they lay out if you don’t it’s more like 1-2%. I can keep going but just like the geos(global employee opinion survey) it doesn’t matter what I write no one is going to listen they only pretend to care. So if you are looking for a real career and the chance to make 200k plus per year look elsewhere.

Pros

-Some of the greatest people you will meet. -Most employees, especially Account Managers, are incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and will teach you everything they can. -The products are of extremely high quality and can actually make a difference.

Cons

This company is lost and is taking it out on their work force. Relationship building used to be a foundation of Hilti. Now, management only cares about Salesforce.com usage even about sales dollars at times and does not care about making things right with customers. Our employee survey, called GEOS, we took this year was the absolute worst I have every seen in my 10 years with this company by a huge margin. No one internally has any faith that management will do anything about it. Training also used to be very hands on and taught a lot about jobsites, but now new hires are being incorrectly told that jobsites are not important and teaches very little about the tools you must know.

Thank you for leaving us this feedback. I can assure you, as with every year, regardless of whether our GEOS results are good or bad, all teams around the organization are working hard to formulate action plans at an individual team and regional team level. We communicate our action plan and what we're doing to address these issues - and this year will be no different. Keep an eye out on our REDi platform as we begin to communicate how plan to address the key points we learned from the survey. Thank you for leaving us a review!

Pros

Strong product line and solutions offering; hires good people; benefits are fair for the most part;

Cons

Hilti has set out to diversify and become a construction technology company through software and solutions. However, current product offerings that made it possible for Hilti to reach this point are becoming neglected from a corporate and executive standpoint. Micromanagement has become the norm and Salesforce is starting to become weaponized opposed to a tool. Hilti knows where it wants to go, but the execution and shifting priorities are making it difficult for professionals in the field to buy in and believe they'll be adequately rewarded for the change. The combination of these negatives will cause dedicated employees to start looking elsewhere and finding different jobs where that may have been unthinkable 3 or 4 years ago.
