      Too big and out of control - Caveat Emptor!

      Pros

      You can fly under the radar for years and no one cares. The number of inept people impacting the health of others is a majority of the 45,000 employee base. Your are so compartmentalized you do not know the end result of your actions. Mantra of "Perfect Service" is touted by all and practiced by few. Very security conscious and protect themselves from every legal angle to a fault. Micromgmt is an art form level on low end of the career ladder. Largest datamining operation in the world.

      Cons

      "Perfect Service" is not. Don't get between the revenue and management with an idea requiring money. Mgmt is focused on sales and their bonuses, not the people stepped on or over along the way. CEO is a bean counter without regard to the human condition. Another Humana business about to crash and burn; milked the nursing homes; then the hospitals; now health insurance; what's next?

      Not a good place to work

      Pros

      Good products and compensation packages for sales agents, especially the Medicare market. So, so products for traditional individual major medial insurance. Flexible working hours.

      Cons

      Management has set sales goals way to high and only about 10% acually achieve goals on a monthly basis. Management will not hesitate to trheaten you with termination for not producing. The focus on sales goals are products that they compensate the sales agent the least. Underwriting is a nightmare and folks are rarely approved for coverage. Very high rates on Medicare supplements.

      Pros

      There are unlimited resources at Humana to learn and grow. Humana is a very forward thinking and dynamic industry leader. Decent starting pay but hard to be hired if not internal. VERY strong benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision and 401(k) match)

      Cons

      Sometime they implement then figure out details. This can lead to "putting out a lot of fires." In 5 years at Humana, I switched jobs three times. Once due to outsourcing. I also had 3 Directors and 5 managers in the five years I was an associate.
