Pros

The company puts a lot of money and time into attracting the best talent. They offer educational seminars and internships to students from top colleges.

Cons

Performance reviews and advancement are based on subjective criteria. HR provides no support when employees encounter unethical issues with management.

Learning a lot about what not to do

Pros

-Some of the nicest people you will ever meet. -My particular role has more freedom than others (work from home, taking on additional fun projects as long as I'm meeting my requirements) -It's so big that it's hard for management to keep up with every nuance of the way people spend their time, so, even though it's not explicitly encouraged, there is opportunity to explore different skill sets. -Louisville may not be a bustling town, but it is still a place for entrepreneurial minds to make their mark.

Cons

-No clear path to advancement. -Dinosaur technology systems -Rigid hierarchy -Conservative business culture (stringent dress code, lack of work at home policy for everyone) -Lots of unwritten rules -Homogenous workforce (there is some ethnic diversity, but it's segregated by hierarchical level; not a lot of experiential diversity) -Many people in senior leadership have outrageous egos and do not recognize the value of the perspective and experience of associates at lower levels (often working closest to consumers, and therefore with the greatest potential for insight). -Corporate language makes no sense and becomes another barrier to understanding consumers

Sell Less for More

Pros

One of the things that attracted me to Humana was their commitment to great customer service. The corporate offices in Green Bay truly fulfilled this promise.

Cons

Humana's health premiums and renewals were very high compared to competitors in the industry. It was very apparent that the focus was on profitability versus growth. I'm all for making a profit, but a philosophy that should be adopted would be - Sell more for less. To me their goal is just the opposite of that statement. While they provided excellant customer service to their external customers, they did not extend this same sentiment to their own employees. Compensation would be inaccurate, HR would not return calls when promised, management did not support employees ideas.
