Pros

There are some really great people to work with; there is a rich brand history of Holiday Inn and InterContinental; there is great work/life balance in most areas of the company; because the company is global, there is opportunity to meet & work with people all over the world; this is the company that practically invented the hotel business which is something to be proud of; compensation & benefits are slightly above average for the hotel business; there is a desire by some within the company to truly recapture the glory days of the company; discounts on hotels are great - when you can get them.

Cons

Like many large companies, true change is slow. Current senior management is not forward-thinking or innovative which is a shame considering the many innovative things the company has done in the past. There is no real focus on personal development unless you happen to get an exceptional manager. The Information Technology area has some great people in it, but it is caught up in politics and egos. The same is true within the Distribution area. Ethics are borderline at times. If you're good at (and enjoy) navigating politics, you'll be fine. But if you just want to get the job done you may be frustrated.

Pros

Beautiful corporate office, great perks.

Cons

IHG uses company re-org to get rid of older employees that can be replaced with younger, cheaper ones. Their quest for "diversity" has made it difficult for US employees to retain their jobs, even though they have been assests to the company with their performance and dedication. Closing all US call centers and moving offshore took hundreds of jobs from US employees.
