Pros

Intermountain is a large health care organization that spans a big geography and has the potential for huge positive impact for those looking to make a difference in how health care is delivered. It is financially stable in a time when many similar companies are not. Intermountain genuinely supports work/life balance and has been progressive in how they've embraced and supported remote work.

Cons

At the executive (VP & AVP) level, it does not appear to be a meritocracy. There is a bias towards charismatic white men who are given opportunities with far less experience and results than others. Experience outside Intermountain is discounted and formal education from well-regarded institutions is considered on par with for-profit, online programs.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. At Intermountain Health, we enjoy the privilege of working with caregivers from many different heritages and backgrounds, who enhance our mission by bringing their traditions, customs, experiences, and perspectives to work every day. Our Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is active in visibly raising awareness and helping us create a culture of equitable opportunity and belonging. The OEI hosts and sponsors events, trainings, Caregiver (Employee) Resource Groups, and multimedia marketing campaigns. More fundamentally, these talented caregivers drive our focus on ongoing policies and practices for hiring, supporting, and developing a diverse and culturally competent workforce at all levels, listening to diverse groups caregivers, and sourcing from diverse talent pools in the community. We appreciate your review and will share it with our teams as we continue to move forward.

Pros

Great facilities and good benefits.

Cons

Physicians have little to no voice in the larger organization. All decisions are made by upper level management who are out of touch with what doctors, nurses, staff, and patients need.

Pros

- Extremely flexible work environment. Your direct manager will determine everything from what your workload will be, to the team culture, to how flexible your workday is. I can pretty much do whatever I want if I get my work done and don’t have a meeting, and that’s probably the most common situation in IT. - not abusive. Idk maybe it’s weird that I expect my bosses to be abusive psychopaths, but these people aren’t. I have serious qualms about their strategic management, but on a day to day basis, my coworkers, my managers, and upper management are all supportive, solution oriented, and genuine. I can’t tell you how big of a difference this has made in my life. That said, there are definitely abusive managers out there, and if you get one, there’s nothing to restrain their behavior. Again, be careful on that if interviewing.

Cons

- Upper management is pretty incompetent. They regularly rename, retask, and rehouse teams in ways that hinder work, they frequently make promises they don’t intend on keeping, and start initiatives they don’t intend on finishing. Do not listen to anything a manager higher than your direct one says. - raises have so far not even remotely kept up with expectations, which is single-handedly causing an exodus from their IT division. In terms of what seriously determines my experience here, it’s all good with the exception of pay, which will probably eventually push me out when I would otherwise make a career here permanently.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, both positive and constructive. We value all our current and former caregivers’ feedback, as our focus is to continually improve our practices. We strive to provide opportunities that allow our caregivers and leaders to engage in open and accessible forms of communication. Additionally, we continuously adjust pay. We assess pay on an annual basis, to reflect geography, and as the market changes. We appreciate your review and will share it will our teams as we continue to move forward.
