Pros

I worked part-time at the Mag Mile store in Chicago, the pay was about average but in general I prefer commission. The managers weren't terribly flexible on scheduling, but again, no worse than any other chain store. The biggest perks were the clientele, mostly tourists but the occasional celebrity, and the major discounts on clothes.

Cons

Like any retail job it was a bit boring and repetitive, scheduling could be a nightmare, no commission means the pay is relatively low, but stable, and there didn't seem to be any effort to give associates responsibility that could lead to a management position.

Pros

Very small commission as salesperson, but decent commission as personal shopper. Generous employee discounts.

Cons

Terrible work culture - commission-driven atmosphere encourages hostility and greediness among associates rather than "healthy" competition. It also encourages selling motivated by commission rather than genuine love for the product, much of which was of poor quality and cheaply made but not cheap. Huge disconnect between HQ and salespeople - no sense of being a real part of the company. Very high turnover. Little opportunity for growth. No insurance or benefits for part-time employees, unlike at places like Starbucks. Even keyholders don't make enough to reasonably live on, even though they're required to work full-time.
