Pros

great benefits, nice staff, clean store, great employee discount

Cons

The JCP salon I worked at was located in a town of a population of about 50 thousand. I was there for 3 years and would have stayed if I hadn't got so frustrated. Our salon was very outdated , in the back of the store, so most customers didn't even know we had a salon. Because of this , it was almost impossible for a stylist without a clientele to make a living, so turnover was rampant. The salon division encouraged us salon managers to hire Master Stylist with a clientele book. This proved to be very unrealistic. The Master Stylist who were already established at other cute, hip salons did not see the benefit of uprooting their current clientele for a salon located inside a Big Box store, near the bathrooms, in a tired and outdated salon.

Pros

Co-workers are excellent though most everyone is currently looking elsewhere so not sure how much longer this will be a "pro". Pay is better than average, but unless you're desperate, it honestly isn't worth it.

Cons

Failing industry. Business model is broken. Senior leadership (C Suite) doesn't know how to fix. Reinventing company as another Sears is NOT the solution. Constantly changing course and never giving a new "strategy" a chance to work. New HR policies are going backwards, not forwards. Benefits are terrible... most negative score on associate survey in 2016. No improvements made in 2017 and no real hope for improvements in 2018 either. Stock continues to drop and is at its lowest point in history. The concept of "creating associate wealth" is a complete joke.

Pros

- Well known brand with a lot of customers. - They are wanting change, so your work will see production.

Cons

Been here for 3 years. Here's what I've learned. - High turnover at all levels. Expect to work with a new manager every 1-2 years. - Was told by a former manager (which I had a good relationship with) that my annual review was given "Less than Average" because "everybody who worked less than a year is automatically given this". I'm not sure how senior leadership thinks this helps moral. - Working around legacy technology: You can come up with a great solution but the legacy API won't support it. - 10-12 hour days are common. They calls this "JCPenney Intensity". Managers have said several times if you want to work an 8-5 this job is not for you. - Many coworkers are consistently skipping lunch to meet tight deadlines. - You'll need support the India team. Expect to be on call for emails and schedule off hour meetings on Sunday. - There's a lot of meetings that block your day. You're expected to get your work done as if these meetings never existed. - Company rarely promotes within at all levels. I've seen many managers who work intense hours get passed up on promotions. This creates turnover and low moral.
