There seems to be difficulty in attracting & retaining the best talent because of pay in some areas, particularly in Marketing. The caliber of the talent overall could probably be improved. The other side of higher tolerance for subpar performance is being in a sea of some mediocre performance and some lack of accountability. If you're the type of person who can't stand to see inefficiencies and ongoing subpar performance from colleagues, then this might be a difficult work environment for you to be in long term. The franchisee relationship is also a difficult one.

The culture steadily declined during the last five years of my tenure. Instead of having supervisors and managers who lifted up and supported employees, I found my last five supervisors lacking experience and faking their way through each day, jealous of my tenure and the salary I had earned and overwhelmed with responsibility. I noticed a pattern of Jack in the Box laying off people regularly to appease shareholder pressure to reduce overhead because financial performance was not where it needed to be. Frequent lay offs made me and my closest coworkers fearful and anxious. I watched staffing shrink each year, expand the next only to be cut again. My advice is to learn what you can over a few years and move on to another company for advancement. The current wary culture advances employees based on favoritism.
