Pros

I was successful in my interview and offered a position with JGA around a year and a half ago. Having worked as a fire engineer for more than 6 years, I was aware of JGA as a flagship company within the fire engineering community, and one I found were constant competition (and triumphant) when bidding for projects. Although assurances were made during my interview, I was taken aback by the active encouragement, chartership assistance, and progression opportunities I’ve been given to date. I’ve also been blown away by the continued dedication and high standard of work produced from Design Engineers/Associates/Directors alike. This is clearly echoed by the clients I’ve seen returning again and again. All colleagues I’ve met have an active interest in both mine and my partners lives, and we’ve attended the annual JGA conference and odd BBQ, getting to know different team members on a more relaxed and personal level. On a local scale, my Technical Director has been extremely helpful/supportive as I transitioned into my role at JGA. At JGA I feel very appreciated and the salary is generous. The recent acquisition with Jensen Hughes has only improved things further by giving staff the ability to access project servers and work from home if required, more prominent IT equipment and softwares, and access to technical papers/online learning.

Cons

Busy periods of the year and a willingness to satisfy clients/assist collegues can lead to long hours. However, senior staff actively engage/provide advice and assistance where possible to try and help manage workload/expectations. The team dynamic upon a successful project delivery and a couple of beers at the pub after work more than appeases this.

Pros

I joined the company following the completion of my masters degree and have been with the company for over 13 years! The support given by colleagues at all levels are superb and second to none throughout my careers. Even when I was a design engineer, I was able to contribute massively on projects and have my own voice while working amongst senior colleagues and clients. As a non native employee, the work place and culture make me feel very much at home. There are no discrimination, no office politics, every one is fairly treated and being given equal opportunity to excel. Due to the amount of exposure on a large number of exciting/complex projects during the early stages of my career with JGA, I rise through the ranks quickly during my 20s, and being promoted to Technical Director in my early 30s. JGA also looked after my family well over the years. I appreciate the flexible and common sense approach in dealing with holidays and sick leave where health and family always come first. If you are ambitious, want to make a difference to the world, and be appreciated on your work by external clients and colleagues at the early stages of your career, I would highly recommend JGA.

Cons

Very pleased with the company and still loving it after 13 years.

Pros

I joined JGA as a graduate 8 years ago and am happy to say I'm still here. My experience has been almost exclusively positive, as per the below: - Engineers are given responsibility for designs and projects at an early stage in their careers, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. - JGA cover all building sectors, so engineers work on a wide range of projects. - Great career progression, all senior staff have started at graduate level and have worked their way up. Engineers are promoted based on ability and motivation rather than experience. - Salary is good, and is frequently increased based on performance. - Each engineer is trained to be technically excellent, including regular one-on-one sessions with directors and senior engineers. A mentor is assigned to each engineer to supervise their development. - Engineers are encouraged to work/live in different JGA offices if desired. - Assistance is given to engineers to achieve Chartership, and this is actively encouraged. - Really good lively working environment with friendly, smart staff. - Staff feel appreciated and are given regular feedback on their performance. Directors genuinely care about engineers' development.

Cons

- With the responsibility that is given to engineers comes the expectation to deliver. This, and the nature of the construction industry, can lead to work-life balance issues if not managed properly. Management are pretty good at reacting to workloads and sharing work out where possible. - The benefits package is very basic, but compensated by salary.
