Extremely Dysfunctional Company

Pros

The only pro I can think of is if you are an executive getting the ridiculous $100,000 to $500,000 ++ dollar individual bonuses. Two years ago while the company said that profits were low and the general bonuses were reduced to 3% but the executives still got their big bonuses. There is a reason the execs buy new exotic cars every year and live in mansions.

Cons

Revolving door: 19% turnover rate (Mainly office and professional staff, not production). The Corporate HR group has been "changed out" 3 times in 5 years and still can't control the turnover. Good performers are fired for little to no reason or simply based on rumors without any proof or investigation. The owners can't make up their mind on what they want. They open new ventures and then close them before they have a chance to perform. They approve new projects and then cancel them before they start. The upper management doesn't trust the middle management to do anything. Everyone is micro-managed from the very top down. You are only appreciated If you are in the "good old boy's club" or family. Work is a constant daily struggle.

Pros

work experience close to home getting chance to learn antiquated technologies

Cons

Directors really do not know what they are doing. No real science. They take other companies patents then try to twist things around so they can manufacture same product or make similar claims. Produce products that are claimed to be Kosher and / or follow FDA guidelines ... they are not! basically we are one FDA inspection from a major fine or even a temporary shutdown.

Great company, but filled with some really bad managers

Pros

Unheard of bonuses (uncapped, almost always at least 10%, sometimes 30%!), good 401K match and low insurance rates. Work is challenging, fun, scientific, and meaningful. You feel like you are really contributing . A family feel (it is family owned) and almost all employees and co-workers are very nice and helpful.

Cons

Unfortunately, Kemin has so many bad managers and nothing ever gets done about it. A bad manager will cause several great employees to leave to a different business unit or company, but nothing ever happens to the manager situation, so it just keeps happening. Too many micromanaging managers and managers that are downright mean to their employees. I've heard of managers that have told their employees that they don't believe in giving good review scores because they take pride in having super high expectations. That is just mean to that manager's employees who will never get promoted or get the financial raise that they deserve.
