Not Worth the Hassle

Pros

Somewhat free to handle work as I need to in my district. There is a feel-good feeling at the end of the day when you know your employees look up to you and know you're doing your best for them.

Cons

No growth potential (even after reaching out to upper management about what is needed to move up with the company), underpaid (some employees make more than I do), overworked, no work-life balance. As a manager in charge of Sales Reps and Merchandisers I receive emails, text messages, and phone calls from 6am to midnight if not later. Expected to bend over backward to get all of your work handled on time while also dealing with a constant struggle of not having a fully-staffed team (not just during COVID, this has been going on for years). But, when you want support from HR or any management above the branch itself, good luck.

Pros

Always changing. Opportunities for improvement everywhere you look.

Cons

Every process is the same as it was 20 years ago. No one takes accountability, and only one decision maker. Face time is very important, not progressively adapting to the changing work life balance model. Everyday 8-5 and during busy times you work extra hours. Plan to spend all 8 hours here and not leave. Lied to in the job interview about potential career growth and daily tasks of job.

Pros

I love the schedule. 12 hour shifts but we only work 7 out of every 14 days. Lots of overtime if you want it but very rarely forced overtime. Decent amount of vacation time you can start using as soon as you receive your first check.

Cons

Terrible/worthless health insurance They raise the starting wage for new employees without giving across the board raises to everyone else. As a result new employees are making almost as much on day 1 as someone who has been there several years. Heavily resisting our attempts to form union. Pulled everyone into a forced meeting to present half truths and misinformation about unions as a scare tactic. Management makes a show about listening to our concerns and make promises but never delivers. They are steadily taking away benefits. For example we used to get about 6 pounds of free coffee sent to us in the mail every month. That is now gone. It takes 1 worker less than 15 minutes to produce enough product to provide this benefit for 20 people. Other benefits are disappearing out right or being reduced in value. In the Seattle/Tacoma area the cost of rent for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment will take 1/2 of your pay at the current starting rate of and the raises are low and slow.
