Pros

Despite the challenges, the dedication and support of many employees create a sense of camaraderie and make the workplace manageable. Additionally, the company offers good benefits and remote work options.

Cons

Lack of Direction: The company frequently changes its strategic direction and product focus, which creates confusion and instability. This lack of clear vision affects overall productivity and employee morale. Frequent Layoffs: There have been numerous rounds of mass layoffs, which creates an environment of uncertainty and insecurity among employees. The constant threat of job loss impacts job satisfaction and trust in leadership. Poor Communication: There is a significant gap in communication from management regarding the company's future plans and rationale behind strategic changes. Employees are often left in the dark about major decisions that affect their roles and the company’s direction. Impact on Employees: The lack of stable direction and the frequent layoffs place a heavy burden on employees, leading to decreased morale and increased stress. The constant shifts and job insecurity make it difficult to maintain motivation and focus. Compensation bands have also really lowered over the past year.

It Used to be So Great

Pros

The people who work at LegalZoom, like agents, are all pretty rad. Especially back before the pandemic, there was always fun at the office. I made some true and dear friends at LegalZoom. The health insurance was fantastic, too. As someone with an autoimmune disease, the insurance was a God-send to me while I had it.

Cons

Outsourcing. Twice in 2023, I lost my role to outsourcing. The first time, they moved me to another role, the second time they simply laid off the entire sales department. Everyone who took a customer interaction at LegalZoom used to be located in Texas. Now, they're not even in the United States and the training they receive to help you is absolutely subpar. Goals - sales goals changed month to month and always felt like they were simply ridiculous. Combined with tech issues every single day, it was an uphill battle to hit goal most months. Tech issues - for a "tech" company, LegalZoom has some pretty terrible tech. While the new C-Team (they came in right before the pandemic) has made some upgrades, there are still things that are broken for months if not years. It's rather embarrassing. And when it came to being able to provide feedback on broken tech (like on the website), it was a labored process. There was no ongoing collaboration between customer-facing teams and the teams constantly making changes.

Pros

Co workers are good people, unfortunately they’re in the same boat.

Cons

Marketing Department has no work life balance. Everyone is overworked. Pay seems good at first, but not when you’re working 65+ hours a week. I’ve worked nights and weekends the past 2 months and was scolded by my manager for not working through the evening on one night because I had a family event, and they said I must not be committed to the company if it was more important. Leadership does not care about their employees. The expectation very much is that you’ll work through evenings and at least one day on the weekends. They tell you what you want to hear before you join the company, but that all changes once you sign up.

Thank you for your candid feedback. We take these comments to heart. At LegalZoom, we strive for a culture that enables our employees to have the right balance, especially in a new remote-first environment of work-life integration, while also continuing to meet and exceed our company and team goals. We always encourage employees to share priorities, commitments and timelines with their leaders on a regular basis, and as new or changing initiatives come along the way, we support employees in partnering with managers to appropriately reprioritize the highest impact work to ensure success and a manageable workload. Additionally, at a team-wide level, the Marketing team has developed employee engagement action items, which include 1-1 check-ins to review key projects and dependencies for prioritization, as well as asking questions to ensure each team member has the support they need to succeed both professionally and at home. Given each individual has different circumstances, I’d encourage you to reach out to your manager, or your HRBP to help. We’re here to support you.
