Pros

There are still exciting jobs to be found at Lockheed Martin in a number of career areas. In the technical arena, if you get tired of what you are doing you have a good opportunity to try something quite new without having to change companies.

Cons

Upper level management at some facilities has appeared short-sighted in the management of the business areas under their control, leading to loss of business in those areas and a subsequent loss of jobs. The Corporation has made strides in industries other than Aeronautics, Space, and Defense, but in light of shrinking budgets in those areas, they could do so much more to further diversify away from those areas and into commercial ventures. Their proclamation of Full Spectrum Leadership, while good in theory, seems to be nothing more than lip service as I've seen many high-level managers completely fail in this regard and still get promoted.

Pros

- This company is one of the most innovative and leads the world in defense weaponry and aerospace engineering. - Most promote the core values of strong leadership, respect for one another, and strong direction. - You will get as much responsibility as you are willing to take on.

Cons

- Some employees want to be impossible and will make your life impossible simply because they are miserable and unfortunately they are in a position to do so. - Not a strong work/life balance, finding myself working 70 to 80 hours per week. - This company will never admit that a schedule or budget is not possible so the work atmosphere tends to be high stress, with management always believing specific tasks and budgets are feasible when from the get go they were clearly not. - Non-technical management makes the Master Schedule and provides the budgets with usually very little engineering input which makes for way over-blown budgets and missed milestones.

Pros

As a young professional, Lockheed Martin is a great place to work if you are passionate about manufacturing and engineering. Their leadership development programs offer employees the opportunity to have their graduate degree paid for and allows employees the opportunity to relocate on the company's dime.

Cons

On average, responsibility and salary increases tend to be on the slower side. Promotions are based on tenure rather than ability. With many layers in management and supporting roles, career advancement comes slowly. Switching companies often appears to be the best way to progress at this firm.
