Pros

When I moved to this regional company I wondered how they were going to get away from having so much of their work at Microsoft. It was a worry that i know others had too. The leaders said there was a plan but that it would be hard work. In the last three years they have been true to their word. I have worked at Microsoft as well as Boeing and Expedia and had an opportnuity to do thought leadership with the Gates foundation too. They were right on the other point, it has been hard work, but the right kind of true consulting work. It's very satisfying and thats what i was looking for. Nearly all the team are grade 'A' people and thats what makes the difference.

Cons

Nearly all the team are grade A. That means that not everyone is. I think a few people, ok two that i know, had slipped by. One got managed out, the other, well the other should be. Nice guy buy the work here is challenging, in a good way.

Pros

Good company for interns. They bid for less compare to other companies as they want to grow so many projects in hand. They attract people by salary but have no great benefits.

Cons

Beware of some directors, they will ask you to spy on other developer's work. Lots of politics in the air. Managers, project managers are the worst asset in the company. Without the knowledge of higher management, managers commit to the client extra work which won't be even included in the initial estimate. They do not know how to lock the projects. If you are single then working for this company is okay but if you have a family or other responsibility this is not the company to work for as work and personal life is very unbalanced here. Even if you take any few hours off for any personal reason you would be questioned a lot even though you have already put extra several hours. Always have to put min of 10hrs per day. They promise for time-off and then when you ask for it manager will say that he can't officially give that and you never will get that. If you happen to have other offers in hand I would prefer that over this even though salary would be less. This should be last choice. Also prefer going hourly rather than full time as anyhow their benefits are not great if you have a family or dependents.

Pros

The majority of the individual contributors (field consultants) are a great bunch to work with. Super intelligent, motivated, social, helpful.

Cons

Too many chiefs, too few warriors: Manager versus IC ratio = 40/60. Micro-management by incompetentn, non-caring managers who are driven by financial greed, not best interest of client. Frequently put consultants in cross fire for doing the right thing for client versus being blindly obedient toward ignorant management. Many pre-sales opportunities (referrals) fell through for lack of follow-through. Consultants get punished for doing the right thing for client. Management is more busy with their own self-importance. Employees are held accountable to retro-actively changing objectives at review time. Employees are not rewarded for doing great client work. Projects are grossly mis-managed, if managed at all. Even though called "consultants", work is actually hourly body-shop work, hourly rate is all that seems to matter.
