Pros

Initially, my team was the highlight of my job. I loved working with every partner and enjoyed what I was doing to support the company’s initiatives. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse due to new leadership that was toxic to our team.

Cons

If you're considering applying to a corporate position at Lowe's, I urge you to think twice. This company has a toxic environment and doesn't value its associates. They only give Thanksgiving and Christmas off, and you have to use your PTO to take off any other holidays. And if you think this policy will ever change, think again - Lowe's claims it's "too expensive" to offer more time off. I worked at Lowe's for almost 2 years, and it started out great. Our leader was collaborative and encouraged us to do our best work. But after leadership changed, everything went downhill. The focus shifted to running the department like a business, and silent layoffs became the norm. Work/life balance became non-existent as we were expected to do more work in less time with fewer resources. I became obsessed with my work because it was never good enough. I sacrificed time with my family to work long hours and weekends to meet unrealistic deadlines. And despite my efforts, my leader never took the time to coach or develop my skills. Instead, I was constantly criticized until I was unexpectedly laid off, with my position eliminated and my termination effective immediately. But Lowe's didn't want to let go of me entirely - they encouraged me to apply for another position so they wouldn't have to take back my equipment. They wanted me to become a workhorse somewhere else in the company. Don't be fooled by Lowe's claims of being an "Employer of Choice" - it's just a marketing tactic. Save yourself the stress and disappointment. Look for a company that actually values its associates and treats them with respect.

Pros

Typically good co-workers that become family. The tenured associates all have each others' backs. The pay is decent. If you make sales as a store, the potential bonuses are OK.

Cons

Constant badgering from store manager - the focus is on ongoing criticism and nitpicking. This comes from above. Perceived shortcomings - or as they call them 'opportunities' - are always at the forefront. Wins are celebrated briefly, if at all. Corporate greed is becoming more prevalent as hours are being slashed in an effort to increase the bottom line; read - corporate/managerial bonuses. Growing 'do more with less' mentality. Out of touch with reality in that they feel like "find a way to get it done" will magically make things happen whilst cutting more hours; they want the best customer service with as few associates as possible, then throw the 'more profit more hours' spiel at you and complain when customers give poor surveys because they couldn't find help. This company will gladly allow you to work yourself into the ground as they look the other way.

Pros

It's easy work, doesn't take a lot of training or thinking to do the work

Cons

Minimal/ no amount of initial training. The new managerial staff are micromanagers and are bordering on osha level complaints from workers. They are requiring us to stay at our stations until the very last minute at the end of day making it so that we barely have enough time to put our stuff away, before being penalized for clocking out late. Not allowing employees to lean or sit on anything while we are waiting during lulls in workload. Hard work is only rewarded with more work while minimal effort is overlooked and oftentimes rewarded. You are only promoted if you spend more time kissing up to management than doing your work, with rare exceptions.
