Pros

Money is good for remote direct service work you get to work from home all the time

Cons

They want you to do it their way or you fail your audits and you are out. They have a very narrow view of how to help someone and it is not individualized. A lot of employees who call in are not mentally ill, they are just stressed out from working for companies that don't care about them or who discriminate against them or treat them badly and all you can offer them is therapy. That feels fake and wrong

Pros

You can make a powerful impact on clients (but you don’t need to work here for that). The computer, WFH stipend, and front loaded sick time was good. Fellow coaches are very talented, diverse, and a joy to collaborate with.

Cons

All calls are recorded and reviewed as if you are working in customer service. This was NOT disclosed until 3 months into their unnecessarily lengthy training. Clients are seen as numbers by the company. A few told me they actually felt that way with how Lyra’s intake process is as well as the CONSTANT surveys clients have to fill out. You are expected to continue coaching clients that need therapeutic support unless it’s an extreme circumstance. Managers are very inexperienced and not very good at it. There are managers who have less credentials and experience than the people they manage which creates an upside-down dynamic. My manager could never answer a question, would only get back once in a while, and often gave the wrong answer after I already found the right one from my colleagues. The pay is truly horrendous for the conditions you work under. Even though they tell you otherwise, you are NOT trusted and judged harshly even when you maintain perfect feedback from your clients.

It's a business after all

Pros

-remote work -cool perks/benefits (for now) -smart/talented co-workers I started when Lyra was still considered a "start-up". It was really exciting building a new way to increase access to therapy.

Cons

-burnout -inflexibility -lack of growth opportunities -extracting every ounce of value from staff (especially therapists) Things started to change when we brought on larger companies since we had to cater towards their needs. We were always data-driven, but it turned into being data-obsessed. This contributed to burnout and decreased work satisfaction. I felt like everyone was reduced to a number. It was an aha moment that although the mission is all well and good Lyra is ultimately a business that will do what it needs to do to turn a profit.
