Pros

Working at a small company has both pros and cons. Each employee's satisfaction is a result of what he/she feels is an advantage or disadvantage - what one person sees as a downfall may be what another person considers to be a strength. Here at Mangrove, you have the ability to control how successful you are. As a smaller company, we are less formally structured, more flexible, less set in our ways. Depending upon your personality and job environment preferences, this can work to your advantage. Recognition for a job well done is magnified - everyone knows when you have received positive feedback from a customer or when you landed a large sale or when you helped another team on a difficult project. Being part of a small company feels like you’re part of family and your heart becomes more attached to the success and failures. You are truly able to see the fruits of your labor. If you like taking ownership over your career and are open to taking on a challenge every day, this is the place to be. There are also great benefits offered such as health benefits (cost shared between employer and employee), dental, vision, FSA, 401K with employer matching, other ancillary benefits, paid-time off/paid holidays and casual Fridays.

Cons

With limited resources, employees are busy wearing multiple hats and taking on different roles to get the job done. This includes most of the management team as well as the executives, which causes them not to be able to delegate as much work as if we were a large corporation. Each advantage listed above may be considered a con to certain people. Some people need to be told what to do every hour of the day, they need a formal business structure, they can't prioritize without running it by their supervisor - this requires micromanagers, which is completely absent at Mangrove. There are employees that feel the need to complain to everyone and anyone that will hear them, because something didn't go their way. There are too many people wasting time (and lowering employee morale) talking about what goes wrong or pointing out everyone else’s faults instead of looking at themselves and seeing what they can do differently to make things better. People need to understand that their level of stress has more to do with how they respond to what is going on.

Thank you for your post. We agree that success begins with individuals. We know that you don’t just instantly build a business; that you must build people to build a successful business. We want all of our employees to feel empowered and engaged. It is hard sometimes to achieve this task as there are points where we all wear multiple hats, but our culture is steeped in teamwork, customer service, and accountability. We encourage you to discuss your concerns about low employee moral with the Management and Executive team. Trust is a two-way street. Sometimes we don’t hear about the negativity or concerns until it is too late for us to do something about it. Let us help! We do want to sincerely thank you for being a part of the Mangrove Family!

Pros

Mangrove is a privately held, 20 year old software company that is very compassionate of it's employees. They fully understand work/life balance and I am amazed it how generous they have been to employees regarding home life. The software is amazing, competing daily against powerhouses such as ADP and Ultimate Software who are companies literally 100 times the size of Mangrove. Mangrove is a small business with the lions' share of employees between 2 offices, Tampa, FL and Vernon Hills, IL. Both offices have under 50 employees - you pretty much get to know everyone like a "family". Me personally, I love it. If I am going to be at the office 50 hours per week - I want to enjoy being there. I have been with Mangrove for 3 years and I can say they have been the happiest of my professional career. I worked for ADP for 5 years - so that is saying something. The management is very approachable and is very transparent. If you have a good idea, they will tell you. If you have a bad idea, they will tell you. Zero red tape, zero BS.

Cons

On the flip side, there are some cons to working in a small I.T.firm. There is no "hiding" or trying to "blend in" to avoid work. You will be held accountable for performing above and beyond a bare minimum. There will be times when you will need to wear multiple hats as in any small company. If you are not into that, and just want a "job", look elsewhere. This is not a factory or an assembly plant. You will meet great people but you HAVE to pull your weight. If you read the sign on the wall it says "help wanted" meaning they need you to help the company grow. They owe you nothing but an opportunity. If you are looking for elaborate training, someone to hold your hand, complete monotonous daily tacks in exchange for a paycheck look elsewhere.

Thank you for your post! We agree with you that this is not an environment where you can just coast through the day. Although most people come to Florida to slow down, we are not one of those companies who believe in slow response times or customer service. Our culture is steeped in steeped in teamwork, customer service, and accountability. If you give 100% to us, we give you 100% in return. We are real people who understand that the life/work balance is necessary for a successful working environment. We sincerely thank you for being a part of the Mangrove Family.

Pros

If you like to work hard and see your results, this is the place for you. No one asks you to put in more than they give. You find yourself having more and more passion for everything you do because you see other's passion. You can't coast here - people are vocal and they will call you out. Its real. People are not fake - from the owners on down. The flexibility in PTO helps for people with a family. HR and the managers understand that family comes first and will say it. As long as you don't take advantage, they are flexible and understanding.

Cons

There are some really negative people who are used to just doing the minimum to get by. They get called out and then they pout. They go out and cry to everyone to make people think this is a horrible place to work. Someone should ask them why so many people come back to work for Mangrove if it is so terrible.

Thanks for your feedback. Our cultural is steeped in teamwork, customer service, and accountability. People are held accountable for bad behavior and sometimes they don’t like and can’t handle that. We don’t shy away from praise or constructive criticism from our employees or our clients. Our client’s needs are our first priority and that may not be convenient to an employees personal priorities at any given time. In other words only those value teamwork, extreme customer service, and personal responsibility can work here.
