Pros

The opportunity to travel to far-away, and sometimes exotic places was certainly a benefit of working for certain departments. You can also expense nearly any sort of office or commute equipment you need- good CAD mouse, laptop backpack, and other items of that nature.

Cons

Extremely unrealistic deadlines. Misleading hiring practices Promotions and projects seemed to not be based on merit The pay is horrible, and the benefits (insurance, 401k) do not make up for it. You are worked to the bone when travelling. 12-14 hour days are common on-site, and these include Saturdays and Sundays sometimes. Gossip. Oh, dear, the gossip was bad. When you expense an item, they deduct it from your taxes. This makes it difficult to track your monthly income.

Pros

- The people are great - Excellent benefits. Health and dental are very good and are very inexpensive - Generous profit sharing, 401K - The work is challenging - Recognized and rewarded for hard work - Work is varied, no day is the same

Cons

- Software division is in VA Beach, and can feel disconnected from the main HQ in Iowa. - Questionable long term growth options up to and above Sr level developer - Work can be very difficult, and customers demands can be unrealistic - Customer needs/requests drive development, so the long term vision for the product(s) is sometimes unclear - Travel is frequent and typically on short/no notice - Base salary is below market average
