This is a very patriarchal, paternalistic company that takes care of you as long as you say yes or nothing at all and do your job. The quality of your experience depends on your lower level management. My supervisors were among the best I've ever had, but most supervisors and lower level management just don't have the experience to be good at their jobs. Despite the emphasis on lifetime employment, starting salaries and benefits are unimpressive. I feel sorry for Neil--the founder and still top man. He desperately needs someone to tell him when he's wrong, but in a privately-held and patriarchal company, that kind of advice is hard to get. It's not as bad as some people say, but it could be a great deal better. Someone said you shouldn't think of Meditech as a poorly-paid job, but as a well-paid internship. If you don't want a lifetime gig, there's something in that attitude.

There's very little direction. You are sort of thrown into the water, and you have to figure out on your own how to stay afloat. This can be very difficult for anyone who is new to the medical software industry. It's not easy software to understand; it's unintuitive even to those with great software skills. Also, and I hate to say this, but brown-nosing is often welcomed and frequently rewarded.
