Pros

Coworkers. Most nurses go into healthcare to give back to the community; consequently they are giving 130% every day and are a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately this redeeming quality is exploited by management with low salaries and very little personal growth. Nurses are working long hours and extra shifts to make ends meet. They are often tired and prone to illness because of the constant stress.

Cons

Salary, poor management, PTO is slow to accumulate. Continuing Education is done on-line, and can and should be done in a convention setting, especially with important topics like stroke, trauma and surgical changes. Lunch breaks and breaks in general are almost non-existent. Food/gift shop/coffee shop purchases are charged full price to employees. No perks whatsoever.

Pros

Work environment is adjusted to your liking; ability to work from home; medical benefits and company perks are nice.

Cons

Depending on what department you work for, you may have a different experience in what you are allowed to do and what you are not allowed to do.

Pros

Very caring local staff in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Very competent physicians. Remarkably, excellent equipment and EHR system.

Cons

Mercy is a lousy hospital chain. I think they are disloyal employers. My case? I left with over 100+ hours PTO that should have been paid according to the only policy I could find that states past 90 days you get paid your remaining PTO. They made a change in 2013 that moved that to 3 years-I had 2 yr 9 mo.'s not missing a single day of work. They stiffed me then had the audacity a month later to send me a bill for unused benefits. I've seen them let go several close friends with over 15 to 30 years with the hospital including one man who literally put his life on the line in an active shooter situation years ago at the hospital. Not to mention another friend whose entire family has worked for them in different capacities. It's not the local officials but the corporation that has cut throat management in the guise of a charitable hospital. If you have to start your nursing career here then do it but you will eventually leave, most everyone has.
