Pros

Some of the people were incredible to work with.

Cons

Metromile NEVER learns from its mistakes. They continue to start and stop the "growth engine" aka Marketing budget without actually taking a step back and understanding why they aren't getting the numbers we expect. It is very unclear if this is an insurance company or a tech company, and that confusion contributes to a culture full of conflict. They continue to promote and praise employees who just follow the status quo or are favored by management while ignoring individuals who actually get results. They also laid off some critical team members who have institutional knowledge in favor of newer hires that are compliant order takers. There are no clear career paths or room for growth. When management is asked what Metromile's vision is, the employees are told time and time again "we're working on it." It's pretty difficult to stay inspired in a workplace that isn't even sure what it wants to be when it grows up. There is also a lack of diversity in management and leadership positions.

A waste of talent and resources

Pros

Overall nice and sharp people, fully stocked kitchen and free lunches, pleasant office, good work/life balance.

Cons

Top management doesn't seem to be able to make strategic decisions and stick to them for more than a couple months. Which means that the entire company's focus moves back and forth, with no clear north star. They solely rely on the product (and not marketing) to grow the business, which is unrealistic. That's too bad because the pay-per-mile insurance model is interesting and could be groundbreaking with proper directions and investment.

Pros

Good starting salary, great people, environment, sponsored outings, "unlimited paid time off," booze, lots of booze, 2k referral bonus, snacks, occasional breakfast or lunch, and did I mention beer?

Cons

Inventory for claims is ridiculous. As a claims representative you must manage your desk which includes emails, voicemails, new claims, claim activities and incoming calls which are yours and your peers.
