      Not enough help to keep the store conditions up to company standards.

      Pros

      Michaels is a financially sound company. They run clean well stocked stores. They provide a very good training program for managers.

      Cons

      They want the stores to look perfect all the times, but do not give you enough payroll to get the job done. Managers are expected to work 6 and 7 days a week if that is what it takes. When unloading your weekly trucks, the boxes are just stacked into the truck loosely and have fallen and injured employees often. District Managers are in your store several times a month and leave long lists of projects to be completed.

      Pros

      If you like working with arts and/or crafts this can be a fun place to work. You have the opportunity to work with customers on their projects, especially in framing where you work one on one as a design consultant as well as helping people preserve their artwork.

      Cons

      Unfortunately, senior management has a singular vision of cutting staff and cutting hours to the bare minimum. At the same time, they continue to add workload. Tasks will come down from district or corporate management that will take additional hours to complete, but no additional time will be allowed to be scheduled. Because of the pressure of too many tasks and too little time, culture in at least the store I work degenerates into attacks and backstabbing between management to try to cover for unfinished tasks. It is certainly not a happy place to work.

      Pros

      My favorite thing about woring here was my co-workers, and the fact that I could take plenty of time off for school when I needed it.

      Cons

      The strict rules about coupon use made for some pretty uppity customers. They pay the bare minimun wage required, and will give you a very small raise of about .25 after an entire year of working there.
