      Maybe good job for a student, but overall not a great place to work.

      Pros

      As a crafts instructor you can set your own schedule and teach what you want.

      Cons

      Management is usually not supportive of instructors, in fact I think they pretty much have ended most of the crafts classes. Also, the pay is pretty pathetic. You can make more depending on the price of your class, but when you are in to teach demos or for non class work, you only get $7.00 / hr. I've worked in more than one store and the majority of managers of the stores are down right rude and condescending toward employees.

      Pros

      I've never worked in one of the stores, but the corporate headquarters is a great place to work! It is very laid back and the management team is wonderful. I've worked there for two years and I can't imagine working anywhere else. The pay is high for my field and I always receive the utmost respect from upper management. The company offers great benefits as well. There are sample sales every few weeks and the health coverage is great. The HR department is always quick to assist in any situation. Lastly, the company always plans fun activities for the associates.

      Cons

      It seems as though Michaels management strategy involves many, many meetings. I've never worked anywhere where so many meetings were scheduled to address every issue under the sun.

      Pros

      Bonus payout was nice. Salary was ok. If I remember correctly, I think that the General manager, if they made they p&l for the year, got a nice bonus

      Cons

      Communication was poor. No room for advancement. the lack of respect for the time and efforts that the management put in there. district manager would beat you down mentally and expect miracles over night.
