Pros

-You meet people who are interested in technology. -You get 1 hour for lunch. -Can be somewhat helpful with scheduling hours. Not the greatest. (See cons) -Health insurance (Can apply once a year) -Discounts on items. -Diverse group of co-workers. -Understandable about being late (Just be careful, it's NOT a good idea to ever be late). -Only "nice" Manager at Madison Heights, MI is Cathy, she has years of experience.

Cons

-If you want to spend time with family, don't work here. -If you want to go to college, watch out the managers will reduce your hours for the first week then slowly schedule you back up. -The management treats you like you're in high school, Colleen (General Manager) is the principal of the school (Micro Center - Madison Heights, MI). They can be really rude, and pick on people they don't like. -You are forced to work weekends. -I was General Sales, everyone else stands around while you do all the work- this means unloading "bread racks" and stocking the shelves. The other sales teams Apple, Systems, BYO all look down on you. -You do not leave at a exact time, and you may be forced to stay over. -After the store closes management has you clean up, even if you start early and work really hard to get everything completed so you can leave on time- management will hold you and make you help anyone who didn't use proper time management to start cleaning their isles. -If you are recruited by a Micro Center Employee, just remember Micro Center will give them 250 dollars after you work so many months. Which means they will say anything to try to get you to work there. -PROMISED everyone in General Sales would get a little raise for many months- it never happened. Overall: This list could go on much longer.

Pros

Helping customers with their problems can be fun and satisfying. The other associates working there are fun, good people. They are very willing to work out a schedule to your liking when possible. Will also let you leave early when it's dead.

Cons

The commission based salary is designed to screw you over unless you are having an amazing week, consistently, which doesn't happen. Only a few top positions in store earn a living wage over $15 per hour. Those who do, feign a stronger passion for what the store strives to do, but most likely could care less and are just doing what they are told to do. Literally every single person there complains about their job. Every mention of not coming to work is celebrated with a "yay!", and a week doesn't go by when I don't hear someone say "I need to get out of here". The rules created by higher ups that govern and control what we must do is clearly made by someone who hasn't worked a day in sales. Their "motto" that they call The Gear is touted as some holy grail of knowledge to making you the best worker, when it's just a list of normal activities that any normal person already does. Their end all statement to all problems with not earning enough money is "sell more", despite that successfully selling products is largely random, especially when there's just nobody coming in to buy anything. Higher managment above individual stores pretends to listen to people, creating unfair and imbalanced selling games in a chance to win small gift cards, instead of raising people's salaries. One is the High Five system, which requires a manager to visually see you perform exceptionally well with a customer. Since its creation 2 years ago, nobody in my department has ever won, while other people consistently win every time, because managers hang out in those places much more. There is no motivation to really work at all, other than selling products to customers, because that's the only way to earn more than $4 an hour. Their "recycling" system allows people to drop off anything they want to be destroyed. There is often hundreds of dollars worth of rare or perfectly working technology being brought in by absolutely clueless customers, but rules prevent us from saving any of it.

Pros

Coworkers are amazing and so are the managers. You get to learn new things while repairing product.

Cons

Pay. Expect to be paid well below the national average. In this position at the DC you not only work on PC's, but also Drones, TVs, Servers, and about anything Micro Center sells. You are compensated as a Tier 1 help desk technician and nothing more. When moving through the process to be paid what me and my fellow co workers thought was appropriate.(national avg. which is currently $51,642 here on glassdoor itself for someone with 1-3 years of experience when I left I made $17 an hour with 3 years.) we instead had to wait 5 months for it. The raise was a whopping $0.50 to 4 people... An amazing job that I honestly would have stayed at for years to come but I can't with how upper management treats its employees. When asked about it HR would deflect and blame our personal performance or our managers for the low raise that only 4 people got.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perception and thoughts. Salary information is a very sensitive topic and your information as stated is inaccurate. Our goal is to always reward associates for their performance based on feedback from our managers. We will ensure going forward that the communication around pay is more clear and the expectations are set so everybody is aligned. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors. Sincerely, Angie Miller VP-HR
