Pros

Great office, really friendly and helpful people, interesting projects. The kitchen is always full of cheese and ham, friday beer. Self organisation everywhere. Flexible working hours.

Cons

Sometimes salary, but not critical :)

Great company with great culture

Pros

A flat-organised company based on a culture of self-organisation: this means everyone has a responsibility and a say on most of the challenges / things that happen inside the company, as well as a huge freedom do things pretty much the way we want as long as we consider the impact on the others (ie. remote work, unlimited days off, no schedule). Profit distribution and a nice investment on people (ie. everything-paid trips, parties, food, infrastructure) are also big pros.

Cons

The best thing about Mindera becomes the worst sometimes - as we try to keep decisions as organic as possible, some of the choices, even the smallest, become a challenge to make because there's no chain of command and everyone has a say. This causes things to move slower sometimes and to cause conflict. Salaries are also a problem, they are way below of what other companies have to offer currently, in the same area, for the same roles and experience.

Pros

Good place to work. You feel comfortable, relaxed environment, no micro management. It is a good place to change your career, management easily change you to another project/client/role if you want. You have a lot of freedom to learn, work in open source projects, go to conferences or organize your own, start your own project and propose to management. Interesting self-management approach, although not perfect, it is impressive seeing a company really trying to do something different in this matter. A lot of decisions are made organically with no need to be approved by a "boss". More companies should try to follow the same approach.

Cons

Unfortunately the founders don't seem to value good software developers. Probably they think that we are just another developer and if we leave they just get easily another one that does the job. You can get easily a much better salary in other companies in Porto. But they say they offer other things that the rest of the companies don't. I know that it is polite to say money is the least important thing, but in the end many are leaving and others thinking about it probably because of that. They really enjoy working at Mindera, but yeah they feel undervalued and salary is also important. I know that every company wants to reduce costs, but it is disappointing seeing a company that says they care about people and throws a bunch of cool speeches, and after awhile you realize apparently only profit matters. As you see the company growing, many perks/benefits seems to decay - bonus, food. Creating a "Human Resources" department, or "Office Admins" department was a mistake. There a lot of important decisions that are being taken by these folks, and a lot of information that only they know. It seems to be a matter of time until we just forget about self-management and start having bosses/managers in every team.
