Morning Brew Inc reviews

Like any company, Morning Brew is made up of flawed humans, and is thus a flawed organization. The sad part is the seeming lack of interest in acknowledging, addressing, and attempting to improve upon even the most visible and blatant flaws. The HR department is stacked with women POC, which cleverly allows it to undermine/gaslight the HR complaints of both women and POC (I knew several instances of this). As reflected in other reviews here, Morning Brew began as a white boys club and has exhibited zero interested in changing that. WHICH is perhaps the saddest part of it all—finance is a notoriously white-male space, and MB had/has such a major opportunity to diversify and expand who feels welcome in the world of finance and financial literacy. Instead, the company hires one white male executive after another, along with a coterie of white content creators. To be fair, at this point, I don't know if any POC finance creators would want to be associated with MB, but it would have been not only a big business opportunity to expand their audience, but also, of course, a chance to actually make business media/finance more inclusive. The two founders, from what I've seen, are kind, smart, and thoughtful guys. The two of them being younger millennials, it does astound me that the whiteness of leadership doesn't seem to strike them as a cause for reflection or reconsideration. It's 2023!! Regardless of whether you care, it's bad optics. Like any larger company, your experience will vary wildly depending on the team you're on. For example, the education and social media teams are putting out some really cool stuff, and seem to be given space to ideate, iterate, and experiment, which definitely can't be said of other teams. I think Dan Toomey is brilliant, and the best thing the company currently has going for it. If you're looking at Morning Brew, be sure to talk to current or former employees—specifically on the team you'd be joining. It could be a solid fit for you, but it could also be a miserable dead end. (And, to be fair, that goes for pretty much any job.) All in all, Morning Brew seems best as a first or second job for people early in their career. Then move along.

Leadership is awful and inexperienced, no one in our c-suite has ever worked for a real digital media company before and that inexperience shows in the hiring of their senior leadership. This place is not for you if you're not a straight, white, cis male or if you have a creative bone in your body. There is no growth path, turnover has been insane, we've had 2 sets of massive layoffs in the past year, including most recently the disappearance of two senior leaders overnight with no real explanation. It just feels like there's no possible way this company will be around in 5 years.
