Unprofessional experience

Pros

Exposure to self-driving cars in the industry.

Cons

Unprofessional relational dynamics between managers and direct reports. Complaints about nepotism yields more nepotism hires out of spite. Outdated and un-evolved Human Resources department practices. They don’t use third party witnessing when following up employee concerns. They hide conversations on the phone, gaslight people and manipulate to try and make it seem like it’s their fault for being violated. They coached certain individuals to stalk me and keep tabs on me long after I left the organization so they could create a slanderous narrative and avoid paying any sort of unemployment. The people running this place truly are pathetic in an ocean gate mentally kinda way. Beware.

+1 on Boston being a good location to raise a family. However, from your review it’s clear your experience at Motional isn’t what I'd want for any of my colleagues. I'm particularly troubled to hear you experienced a lack of professionalism and would like to hear more about this. We try and get honest feedback through different channels including the Motional employee surveys, but one-way channels like these can sometimes result in ambiguity and more questions. If you feel willing, please contact me confidentially. I'd love to have a dialogue to understand more. Best, Luke Fletcher, Senior Director of Planning & Control

Pros

Interesting and new product, knowledgeable colleagues, decent bonus program and benefits.

Cons

Toxic workplace environment, support staff handle the jobs of 1-4 people each for very little pay, no work life balance (including fielding calls during PTO regularly), favoritism is rampant for engineering staff and against support staff, management cares only about how they are viewed and not about the well being of their employees. Blame-centric culture and a complete lack of DEI. No accountability placed for issues within the org.

While it’s good that you enjoyed the product, team, and benefits during your time at Motional, it’s clear your experience with us wasn’t what we want for any of our colleagues. We're proud of the strong organization we’re building and know that it takes many different functions to achieve our business goals. Our SG&A functions -- finance, HR, workplace experience teams, IT, and many more -- are a critical part of this. As we expand Motional’s operations, we’re actively working on building out our teams to ensure we have the right people and resources to scale and meet our expanding needs. In tandem, the leadership team and I remain committed to fostering a strong work-life balance for all Motional employees and do our best to provide flexible working environments with remote work arrangements and unlimited vacation to help support team members and alleviate stress. Again, I'm sorry you were disappointed in your experience here, and I wish you the best for the future. -- Michele Buonopane, CHRO
