Great company

Pros

Growing company - great people - amazing medical benefits.

Cons

Because the company is growing rapidly - some jobs require 50+ hours/week on a regular basis. Some areas (HR for example) aren't keeping up with the growth of the company. The HR processes in place are more akin to a start-up company than what is needed to retain our technical talent.

Disability or family responsibilities? Don't work here.

Pros

Pay and benefits were nice.

Cons

If you have any sort of disability, this isn't the place for you. Manager refused my very reasonable accommodation request then came down on me hard for everything for asking in the first place. I reported to HR, and she complied for a bit, but started building her case for retaliating and ruining my career there. She also announced to the team that I had a disability and tried to blame me for her making poor decision. When I left, I reported to HR and basically the entire team talked to HR on my behalf. This was six months ago and the manager is still working there and I'm not. If you have any sort of family responsibility, this is not the place for you. Any time I had to pick up my kid from school, I heard about it from my manager, and she would sometimes try to shame me in front of the team for it. The team she hired was 100% male and it was expected that family responsibilities were something our wives handled for us. Aside from that, there are no processes to speak of. Everything is just figured out as you go along with no plan. If you try to make a plan or even talk about this, you will be severely punished by management. When things go wrong (and they will), whoever spoke up about it will be blamed for everything.

We appreciate you taking the time to review NIC and comment on our pay and benefits. We strive to be a market leader in our compensation package, offering 100% paid benefits and competitive salaries. We also let all employees know, starting day one, that maintaining a positive work/life balance is encouraged. Our CEO tells all employees to “give 100% at work and 110% to your family and community.” We are sorry you had a different experience, but are happy you brought your concerns to HR and Management. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

It's a job

Pros

Great medical, coworkers are great, upper management seems to care. Experience depends a lot on what portal you're in.

Cons

Same problems you'd get anywhere that puts marketting above development -- technical debt, backlogs of maintenance on legacy systems, constantly pushing for the next buzzword (leaving more tech debt). Claims to promote from within but I've seen no evidence of that, there are unfilled management jobs and qualified employees not getting them, nor is there any mentoring or coaching on why the employees are not being considered or how they could improve. Extreme overuse of marketing-speak, and treating all employees as if they were sales people. Most communication is from business side to business side -- tech is mostly ignored. Obvious favoritism among management, and obviously sexist GMs. People in "red state" portals beware.
