Pros

Some bosses are great- looking to promote and take care of their team.

Cons

Nepotism and cliques are rampant. Pretty much everyone promoted is a tall white guy. Huge double standards in policies for favorites versus everyone else.

Pros

Pay is good, competitive or a little better, and good equipment to work with. Employee turnover is above average, based on what friends who work at other clinics have to say. Good skills as DVM's. I would be very happy bringing my pets to NVA -- just not working there.

Cons

Management training for managers is terrible or nonexistent - don't expect to be anymore than resource to bring in money for the company. Little or no concern for employees. I have found that DVM's in general have limited or no training in working with and managing people and NVA makes no effort to evaluate or train their key employees in this area. If the location is making money corporate doesn't care how the employees are treated. This is a large company that is for the most part invisible to the public - and I am sure that is the way they like it. I imagine there are some NVA locations with good leadership/people skills, but it is because the individual came with the skills not because corporate cares one way or the other.

Pros

Online mentor that was provided through new graduate program was very helpful.

Cons

I DO NOT RECOMMEND WORKING WITH NVA. NVA owns Carson Valley Vet Hospital and fosters a toxic workplace (gossip, negative coworkers, not team-oriented, lack of respect). This is a busy practice with lack of support staff, which leads to very stressed employees. Poor mentorship and training from superiors. Poor scheduling and communication from management. They are money hungry and will push their staff to exhaustion before they send cases else where. Don’t bother giving notice of resignation, they’ll just fire you when you no longer benefit them. I was asked to give 2 months notice before resigning. When I gave my notice I was fired the week after with no severance pay or PTO pay out. I lost my insurance and was unable to pay for the cost of my medications. NVA is ruthless and does not see their employees as people, we are just numbers on their spreadsheets.
