Pros

Great place to advance your skills. There are a lot of passionate nerds there that care a lot about their craft. If you push yourself they will help advance your skills dramatically.

Cons

EC level management has this drive to grow the company at a rate that is not reasonable and at a cost of culture and employee retention. Taking on larger projects at increased risk has caused many employees to fear for their future job security. CEO seems to want to change the company into something that does not fit with the culture, history and staffing that is in place. Guest speakers are very corporate voiced. CEO often uses very corporate companies to compare The Nerdery against and what they should strive to be like.

This is Tom O’Neill. I appreciate the advice and the candor in your review. I understand your perceptions and I'll seriously consider how to balance our aspirations for the future with the needs of our Nerds today. Our industry is ripe for disruption, we have the talent to make an impact, but not at the cost of our culture and our values. Like you, I hold these dear. Please continue to challenge me and our fellow Co-Presidents to live the values and protect the culture as we strive to make a bigger impact in the industry.

Pros

Highly Collaborative Environment Awesome Perks Casual Dress

Cons

For a company that vocally claims to be diverse and inclusive, it is incredibly disappointing. As a person of color, I have experienced microaggressions and an insane amount of insults during my time with Nerdery. During my interviews, the managers talk about how the environment is supportive, but in reality, there is no room for growth, and they try their best to find every "little" detail to prove that you are not a fit with the company. The company is completely toxic and full of hidden racism. The current leadership is "clearly" inexperienced and does not know how to lead or influence. The environment is a heavy "control and command" culture with no sound strategy. This company lacks inclusion in terms of leadership style and engagement. As a minority, I highly would encourage you to not waste any effort in seeking full-time, part-time, contract, or even partnership with Nerdery.

Pros

The developers that work here are really good.

Cons

Not sure how to articulate my feelings. I feel like the company generally doesn't care. I just want someone to care... is that asking too much?
