Like any company, your experience here will depend mainly on your manager. If your manager is terrified of working with women and thus treats you like a leper, it's going to be difficult to be successful. Sadly, it's hard to argue a case of neglect. In this day in age, most people aren't stupid enough to outright treat women differently, it's much more subtle; you can tell when your manager isn't comfortable working with you when they flat out ignore you (don't answer your emails or Skype messages, don't return phone calls, consistently end phone calls abruptly to take other calls, don't schedule weekly 1 on 1's with you despite numerous requests to do so.) When you're the only woman on your team, and your manager has 1 on 1's scheduled with every man on your team, and NEVER schedules one with you, even though you've asked them NUMEROUS times, what other conclusion can you draw other than they have a problem working with women? It's not my fault that you're attracted to me and it makes you uncomfortable, maybe you should have thought of that before you hired me. Luckily, there are numerous excellent attorneys in the Bay Area who specialize in discrimination and are JUMPING at the chance to take a case like this, so if you're treated like a pariah because your manager has issues, you have options.

Varying Quality of Mid-Tier Managers. I was terminated on the spot by a manager who did not allow an exit interview and treated me like a transaction during termination. There was no constructive feedback, no regard for my good work nor my 'out-of-the-way' extra efforts and no sense of empathy by my manager given the tenured relationship we had.
